The 2023 Globe Soccer Awards took place for the 14th time with the highest title, the Dubai Golden Ball, slipping out of Ronaldo’s hands. The Portuguese superstar was the leader in the voting, but the last person named was Haaland.
On the eve of announcing this award, Ronaldo repeatedly raised his hand towards the Man City player – implying that the junior was worthy of the title.
Thereby, Haaland is the 8th player in history to win this title. Previously, Ronaldo, Radamel Falcao, Franck Ribery, Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski, Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema were names each named for this noble award.
As for Ronaldo, he is the person with the most Dubai Golden Balls (6 times).
In addition to the Dubai Golden Ball, the award also has many other important categories when fans witness a hat-trick of titles for Ronaldo.
At the Gala this morning (January 20), the player playing for Al-Nassr was honored in 3 award categories: “Most scored player of the year”, “Best player Best in the Middle East” and “Best player, as voted by fans”.
Also at the Gala, Ronaldo said that the future of the Saudi Pro League is among the top 3 best leagues on the planet. “I feel very happy in Al-Nassr. Saudi Arabian football is a process, it will take a long time… but step by step they will achieve it. I think the Saudi Pro League will be among the three best leagues in the world. People in Saudi will be proud”.⁹
When asked about retirement, Ronaldo happily replied: “With some of the problems I encountered on a personal and professional level, they made me think in a different way, that’s why. I always try to focus on the present. I feel fine, I’m still capable of doing things. Some of my current goals are to help my club and country. So I’ll keep going. When will I accomplish my goal? Honestly, I don’t know, but it will be soon, 10 years from now”.
