The World Cup winner joined PSG in a £154m deal from Monaco in 2018 but Mbappe is set to become a free agent this summer.
(PLO) – After two and a half years away, legend Sergio Ramos returns to the Santiago Bernabeu for the first time in the upcoming La Liga match between Real Madrid and Sevilla this weekend.
A number of major European clubs have expressed interest in signing Mbappe on a free transfer, including Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool. However, Mbappe was ultimately inclined to join Real Madrid – the team he “turned away” from many times.
In fact, Los Blancos has been trying hard to sign this 25-year-old player since Mbappe’s days at Monaco. The French striker was close to making a move to Real Madrid in 2022, but shocked the football world when he announced a two-year contract extension with PSG.
Mbappe also caused a stir at PSG last summer after refusing to sign a new contract. Additionally, the club accepted a whopping £259 million offer from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal for him, but Mbappe refused.
This caused Mbappe to be removed from the PSG squad for a short time and had to train with a group of rebellious players at the club. However, Mbappe then returned to PSG at the start of the new Ligue 1 season and shone brightly with 31 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, the La Liga giants signed a five-year contract with Mbappe, with a base salary of only £12.8 million per year, a figure significantly reduced compared to the £22 million offer that Real Madrid launched 18 months ago. However, Mbappe can keep a portion of his image rights income, a luxury that very few Real Madrid players have.
However, Mbappe still became the player with the highest income at the club, surpassing star Jude Bellingham by a significant amount. The England international currently earns around £220,000 per week – £11.4 per year – at Santiago Bernabeu, much less than Mbappe.
In order to ensure that Mbappe’s appearance does not affect the atmosphere in the dressing room, Real Madrid has decided to increase the salary of its star, Jude Bellingham can approach Mbappe to avoid jealousy. And Real Madrid fans have many reasons to believe that Bellingham is worth every penny he earns, considering his excellent form in front of goal.
The 20-year-old English midfielder has scored 20 goals and had 8 assists in 29 matches in all competitions this season, becoming the best player at Santiago Bernabeu. It is expected that after an ankle injury in the victory over Girona, Bellingham will return to the main squad in early March.
