French President Emmanuel Macron inadvertently revealed Kylian Mbappe’s new destination after leaving PSG.
Last night, Mbappe played his final match at Parc des Princes in a 1-3 loss to Toulouse. After this match, the French forward has three away matches against Nice, Metz (Ligue 1), and Lyon (French Cup) before bidding farewell to PSG.
Since his contract has expired, Mbappe is allowed to leave on a free transfer, with PSG not receiving any transfer fee. According to multiple sources, Mbappe is likely to join Real Madrid in the upcoming summer.
The information was unintentionally confirmed by French President Emmanuel Macron. Speaking on RMC Sport, Macron stated on social media X: “I expect Real Madrid to allow Mbappe to participate in the Olympics so that he can serve the French national team.”The 1998-born player has previously expressed his desire to play in the Olympics: “I always have the Olympic flame burning inside me. Alongside the World Cup, the Olympics is a global sporting event.”
The 2024 Olympics will be held in France, and the host nation is eager to win the gold medal on home soil. However, the chances of Mbappe’s new club releasing him to participate in the Olympics are not high.
Since it is not a FIFA-level tournament, clubs are not obligated to release players if they deem it unnecessary. In June of this year, Mbappe will have to exert himself in Euro 2024, which takes place from June 14 to July 11. Meanwhile, the men’s Olympic football tournament starts on July 24.
If he participates in the Olympics, Mbappe is likely to miss the early stages of the new club season. Of course, it would not be wise for Real Madrid or any other club that owns Mbappe to pay him a high salary for him to miss the start of the season.
In other developments, Coach Ancelotti refused to discuss the possibility of Mbappe joining Real Madrid, saying, “Kylian Mbappe? I’m not thinking about that topic at the moment. Currently, Real Madrid has more important matters to focus on.”
According to sources from AS, Mbappe cannot wear the number 7 at Real Madrid as it belongs to Vinicius Jr. Instead, it is highly likely that the French forward will wear the number 10 at the club, as Luka Modric is set to leave at the end of the season.
