It was an emotional moment for rescuers and a family after a lost dog named “Puppy” was found 40 hours later. He also owes his first trip to Tino, a Search and Rescue dog.
Puppy, a 150-pound Great Pyrenees, disappeared while horseback riding with owner Karen James in McCleary, Washington. After two anxious days of searching, her owner sought help from Three Retrievers Lost Pet Rescue.
Tino, a Search and Rescue dog, is assigned to the nonprofit rescue organization to locate Puppy.
Tino quickly followed Puppy and discovered the dog sinking in a muddy ravine less than a mile from his home. Only his head showed through the mud.
It took three rescuers to get Puppy out safely. Three Retrievers Lost Pet Rescue said on Facebook: “Tino did a great job today discovering this old dog stuck in the mud.”
“At first his back legs didn’t work, probably because he had been stuck in the cold mud for hours.” “The woods stretch for miles and Puppy’s family might not have found him without the help of search dogs.”
They put the puppy in a stroller and took him home, where his family was happy to see him.
“He couldn’t get out of the mud,” James told Fox 13. “We wouldn’t have seen him because he was pretty far off the road.”
“And you know there are miles and acres of wilderness to search,” he continued. “We will never find out.”
Tino has been in training for 16 months, according to Three Retrievers Lost Pet Rescue, and this is Tino’s first “retrieval walk” of his career. We call it a huge success!
