The 1938 Lincoln Zephyr is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cars produced

The Lincoln Zephyr is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cars made. As usual, Boyd Coddington can still make it better.

This “Lead Zephyr” hot rod is one of Boyd Coddingtons’ creations and was inspired by Terry Cook’s Lincoln-Zephyr coupe, known as the “Scrape,” which he is quoted as saying “ A particularly high-quality ride caught my attention from afar. I have to go out and look at it.”

The Zephyr features an Art Morrison chassis and fully independent suspension front and rear with air suspension allowing ride height to be controlled from inside the vehicle. This allows the car to look breathtakingly low when parked but still allows it to be used in everyday situations.

The car has Wilwood disc brakes, a set of Boyd wheels and good Goodyear tires to keep it rolling and stopping and is powered by a 430 cubic inch Ford engine mated to an A06 automatic transmission. This produced 500 horsepower, a long way from the 110 horsepower of the original flathead V12.

The ultra-smooth sleek design is a unique creation hand-crafted by the talented people working at Marcel Delay’s workshop. The fast rear end reflects the more traditional Lincoln-Zephyr styling of the late 1930s, but the Єody feels much smoother and quicker.

The car is painted DuPont Char-cool oʋer Boyd Mellow Yellow, which complements and accentuates the car’s art deco style and streamlined styling.

The car’s interior features an Ididit steering column and a special leather-wrapped Boyd Coddington steering wheel that Boyd had contracted. The dashboard is also equipped with a special set of gauges. The central instrument cluster is reminiscent of the original but has more contemporary themes that make the car feel like it’s been reworked from a classic rather than a restoration.
