Mainoo was called up to the England team for the first time, in the context of MU’s “prodigy” being a late addition to prevent another member from withdrawing due to injury.
Initially, Kobbie Mainoo was called up by coach of the England U21 team – Lee Carsley. But Southgate changed his mind and lifted MU’s young talent to focus with his seniors.
Mainoo expressed his happiness on his personal Instagram page with a photo wearing the England national team outfit with the caption: “It’s an honor to be called up to the national team for the first time.”
The 18-year-old midfielder will have the opportunity to make his debut in the friendly match against Brazil this weekend, or the England vs Belgium match on March 26.
Kobbie Mainoo also became the third player in the squad to gather for England for the first time, along with Jarrad Branthwaite and Anthony Gordon.
This is Mainoo’s latest milestone in his remarkable progress, having hardly missed any MU matches since November last year.
Mainoo plays prominently in the central midfielder role, with the ability to regulate the ball and handle in tight spaces very well.
Additionally, the teenager has incredible composure like an experienced player.
