Most of us, especially those who love dogs, think that dogs are exceptionally intelligent pets, because after a training process, they can almost understand human wishes, even obey orders extremely cleverly.
However, science completely denies this, because according to a recently published study, researchers said: Dogs’ intelligence is only classified at the “normal” level. ” in the animal world.
Dogs are not as intelligent as you think
Specifically, according to newly published research from the University of Exeter and Canterbury Christ Church University, dogs have much more nerve density than cats, but this factor is not significantly related to intelligence.
Instead, they analyzed data compiled from more than 300 previous studies on the smartest animals and found that dogs were “biased” when compared in intelligence to species like chimpanzees, pigeons, hyenas, horses or dolphins
Psychologist Stephen Lea from the University of Exeter says this about it:
“During our work, we noticed that there seemed to be quite a bit of research done on dog cognition to demonstrate how smart they are.
In this, they are often compared to chimpanzees, and whenever dogs surpass them, people say they have extraordinary intelligence. However, in all the other cases we found valid comparisons between other animals, and they were at least as intelligent and did as well as dogs in some behaviors. move”.
“Why do you compare me to a chimpanzee?”
The research team focused on 5 main areas to find the final conclusion, including: Sensory perception, physical perception, spatial perception, social perception and self-awareness. They compared dogs with three different groups of animals in which dogs were also classified as a species, including: Carnivores, domesticated animals and herd hunters.
After tests, they found that dogs’ cognition is not as extraordinary as we thought
Psychologist Britta Osthaus of Canterbury Christ Church University says:
“If we compare all three animal groups above, it seems that dogs have only normal cognition. We expect too much from dogs and this is not beneficial for them. Dogs are simply dogs, and we need to pay attention to their true needs and abilities before considering how to treat them.”
Dogs are absolutely not as intelligent as cats
In fact, dogs’ intelligence is even worse than cats’, because in a study published in 2013, cats completely know when you are calling them, but the “bosses” simply choose to ignore you if enjoying where it is located. Not to mention wolves, a species that is definitely smarter than regular dogs.
But don’t worry, because this doesn’t mean dogs are unintelligent, and no matter what, they are always man’s closest and loveliest friend, right?
