Maya Lu (currently 9 years old) is probably the youngest professional tattoo artist in the world after having her first tattoo designs at the age of a toddler. Maya’s mother is Lily Lu, a bisexual artist who owns Psyland 25 tattoo shop, which is also where she mainly lives.
According to Lily Lu, Maya developed her skills over the years and learned different design techniques and how to use a tattoo gun without parental supervision.
Her mother said: “Some friends and I showed her a little bit how to use a tattoo gun and were amazed at how quickly she improved. She then started learning other techniques and using different types of needles and larger needles. She needed a little help in the first few years but now she can complete a tattoo on her own.
It’s crazy to see her sitting here and completing her own work with large tattoos in just a short time. Above all, these works are beautiful.”
Maya loves monkey tattoos and often uses large needles to get them done.
Although they believe in their daughter’s skills, Lily Lu and her partner Anuskatzz said they do not intend to put any pressure on their daughter to force her to pursue a tattoo career. They just want her to be excited and happy with what she does.
Lily Lu said: “It’s meaningless to compare my child’s skills with professional tattoo artists. But at her age, her quick and clean tattoo technique is impressive. I always tell her to do what she likes and dreams about.”
Maya loves being at the tattoo studio. The girl has a private corner to draw and create her own tattoo works. Many adults like her works, but according to LiLy, Maya only works when she feels like it, so it’s difficult to make an appointment.
“I think my child is young and he does it for fun. When he grows up, if he really likes it, that will be his great opportunity,” Lily said.
